It is true that parting is such sweet sorrow; but I know you know you will be with Nutmeg again-love you, and sorry for your loss (on this plane of existence)!

Thanks, Carolyn. Gosh I know how much you and Don understand. I will have to soak in the puppy love from you!

This is the most difficult of literature - stories about pets leaving us - but you capture this phenomena with beauty and wisdom. Thanks for the link to the precious story, which I had missed. Thank you.

Gratitude, Stewart, for the kind words. Most difficult indeed, and yet more than some, must be written. Hugs all around.

When we lost George, I kept seeing his soft grey body out of the corner of my eye and heard the soft thump of paws as he would jump down from the bed. I ,embarassed, mentioned this to my vet who said that beloved pets stick around for a while to make sure we're ok. What a lovely thought! And thank you for sharing your love, loss, and grief that we, too, could remember the ones who wiggled into our hearts

You have a wise vet, Susan, and I believe that wholeheartedly! While painful, grief has a way of stripping away all the more trivial concerns, which has its place in a world quite filled with them. Thanks for your comment.

I know you have an appreciation for the relatively short times we are given with our furry companions, Prue. Thanks for helping hold some of our sadness.

Our lives are sweeter and richer indeed for knowing and loving our sweet feline friends. I believe theirs are too, for knowing us.

I agree, Catherine. That whole choosing each other things really feels right. Hugs to you and yours, and thanks for the comment.

Having felt as you do a couple times before (albeit years ago) I still share your sense of bittersweet melancholy. Comforting words like “She’s in a better place” can’t fully compensate, but we hope you can sense the support. Hugs and more hugs.

Yes, the empathy is felt and so meaningful. Thanks, Rob. I think, because she was the last of our trio - the other two having departed not very long ago at all - it was that much harder this time. But, we are loving the good memories. <3

I'm so sorry, Elizabeth. We faced this one recently - took Zip to the rainbow bridge two weeks ago. So hard because there's so much love. Hugs to you guys. xo kb

I thought of you, and Kevin, and sweet Zip more than once during Nutmeg's process, Kathy. She was an exceptional dog, and I know you miss her dearly. I suppose "so much love" is a good thing in the long run. Hugs back.
